Azoth is a fairly powerful, fairly slow undead warlord legend of Brawlhalla featuring the Bow and Axe as his weapons. He is unlocked for 5400 gold. Azoth wears the well-worn stone remnants of armour over an entirely skeletal body, most notably in the form of a helmet with back-curving horns and a dark red plume. Largely seeking peace in death, Azoth is frequently summoned by cultists to wreak havoc upon the mortal world, only to return again upon his inevitable defeat. While ancient and jaded, multiple lifetimes of conquest and combat have created in him an array of combat skills and magics to fell even the greatest of Legends. Azoth, after all, is no stranger to dealing with intrepid, skilled warriors intent on defeating him.

A terror in the arena of Valhalla... At least when he's not being summoned from the grave again. - Mallhalla purchase description

Lore

The One-Man Dynasty

Fa'zul and his Azothian Cultists have found the map and even now seek the seven soul stones. You, the greatest warriors in the land, must find the stones before Fa'zul. If you fail, Fa'zul will use the stones to summon the Lichlord Azoth from the realm of death and doom Elyria - High Priestess Alerial

King Azoth the Great vowed his empire would endure for all eternity. Delving into dark and ancient magic, his court sorcerer crafted seven soul stones that, when brought together, could summon Azoth from the grip of death itself to fulfill his oath.

A thousand years after his death, devoted acolytes of his forgotten empire assembled the stones. Azoth awoke, as brilliant and ruthless in battle as ever, if a little dusty. So began the first reign of the Lichlord Azoth. Only after a saga of epic heroism were the servants of light able to defeat Azoth and scatter the soul stones. The Valkyries, impressed by both Azoth's battle prowess and stick-to-itativeness, gave the lich a seat in Valhalla.

However, the vow was not forgotten. Azothian cultists gathered the soul stones again, and Azoth found himself back in Elyria. Once more, a desperate band of heroes barely defeated him. Lord Azoth the Mighty. Asothos the Terrible. Azothus the Triumphant - again and again Azoth has been summoned from Valhalla to reprise his role as the scourge of the living.

Welcome to Azoth's afterlife. He would be more than happy stay retired in Asgard, enjoying some reading, an occasional battle, and the company of his cat Dander. By the Old Law, even the most heinous curse must contain the seed of its undoing. Azoth can break the burdensome cycle through ten thousand selfless acts. He guesses if pet care counts, he might be at one.

No, I don't know how long I'll be gone. Just feed my cat. - Azoth to Hattori

Appearance

Azoth wears the well-worn stone remnants of his armour over an entirely skeletal body, most notably in the form of a helmet with back-curving horns and a dark red plume. He also wears an old iron gorget and heavy pauldrons to shield his shoulder, as well as iron wristlets, anklets and the tattered remains of pants held up by an old belt loosely around his bone waist. The remnants of a cape or cloak can be seen hanging off of his back, long ago torn and ripped to pieces by ruthless fighting and the simple passage of eons of time.

Signature Attacks

Axe

Input Description Animation Damage Stun Frame Data Notes
Neutral A powerful, if someone short-ranged leaping upwards chop with the axe enveloped in otherworldly flame. Has a narrow horizontal reach, but covers a swath of the air over Azoth's head. Also hits grounded opponents that are standing close enough. Carries Azoth forward slightly. This move is most valuable as a defensive measure against aerial approaches, as its short range and static motion can make it difficult to use as a followup in aerial chains. However, it is fast in terms of axe attacks, so this attack can serve as a useful surprise when an opponent is least expecting it.

or

Azoth lifts into the air with a triumphant roar and dashes forward, bringing his burning axe sweeping forward to swat away the foe at the end of the dash. A move with a very long sideways reach. This move covers the ground that Teros and Barraza would eventually cover over the course of their side sigs, except instantaneously, allowing him to both threaten and cross long distances quickly and in a flash. The downside is that the actual attack only hits a swath at the very end of Azoth's lunge - everything in between is untouched, meaning overjudging the move can be very easy. Keep other options in mind for opponents that get close.
Azoth conjures three billowing columns of dark energy in rapid succession, starting a moderate distance in front and getting closer. All opponents caught in this energy are swept in closer to Azoth, who will follow with a vicious upwards chop with his axe, throwing all caught opponents upwards and slightly forwards. Powerful but grounded, this move functions similarly to Koji's bow down sig - with a powerful forward threat range, but leaving Azoth vulnerable to approaches from above or below.

Bow

Input Description Animation Damage Stun Frame Data Notes
Neutral Azoth fires a bursting arrow of dark energy at an angle upwards. A split second later, a shadow version of himself emerges behind him from his feet and fires a second arrow at the same angle upwards, which also bursts in the air. Azoth does not move during this. A potent anti-air measure. Both arrows fired pack a lot of force, and while the hitboxes are smaller than they may appear, they leave little actual room to avoid being hit if you are in the area above Azoth. This move is useful in both offense and defense.

or

GREEN FLAME! Azoth fires an arrow into the ground far ahead of him, which bursts into three columns of dark energy which billow upwards in green flames. The blast radius of this move is quite large and lingers for as long as the cloud lasts, so the edges of this blast are easily misjudged by aggressive opponents or targets looking to get away. Treat the move like an artillery shot or a blast from a rocket launcher - aim to catch your targets in the explosion. The move's duration and cooldown times will leave you very vulnerable if you miss.
GREEN FLAME BOMB! Azoth hovers backwards into the air and fires a bursting arrow directly onto where he was just standing. Azoth's fastest bow move. It is useful as a riposte and a way to respond to aggressive opponents or those getting too close for comfort. Like his other signatures, the bursts from the arrow linger slightly, allowing the attack to grant him better cover and catch incautiously aggressive opponents off guard.

Trivia

  • Azoth's default weapons are the Forgotten Bow (bow) and the Ancient Axe (axe).
  • Azoth's bot name is Mechazoth.
  • The method to break Azoth's curse via ten thousand selfless acts references East Asian Taoist mythical tales, where a skilled Taoist could ascend in power, form and purity by performing ten thousands acts of good.
  • Azoth is the third fantasy themed legend to be introduced to the game, the others being Teros and Ember.
  • Azoth was introduced on January 6, 2016
  • Due to his cult's dedication to bringing him back to attempt to conquer the world anew, Azoth appears in many other legend's Lores, including that of Mirage, Jhala, Nix and many more, never with the same name twice.
  • Azoth's charged signatures' sound effects sound like the breath of a dying man.

Build Changes
2.67.0 Azoth’s Neutral Axe has received increased power as one of his primary anti-air attacks. Given this Signature’s diagonal direction of force that can hinder knockouts, we have increased both the damage and variable force for more meaningful use and both low and high health values.
 • Azoth Neutral Axe: Increased Damage from 24 to 26; Increased Force from 54 Variable/71 Fixed to 56 Variable/71 Fixed.
2.66.0 • Azoth Down Axe: Fixed a frame with missing hitboxing.
2.61.0 Azoth’s Neutral Axe had an overly long Time to Hit as the game speed has increased. We have reduced not only the Minimum Charge, but also the Time to Hit after release for more reliable usage as an anti-air.
 • Azoth Neutral Axe: Decreased Minimum Charge from 7 to 6; Decreased Time to Hit after release from 9 to 8.
2.57.0 • Fixed minor poppiness in the beginning of Azoth’s Neutral Axe signature animation
Azoth receives a little bit of extra reach and height to his Down Axe to make it easier to land and to threaten more of the space up to the Side Axe’s minimum range.
 • Azoth Neutral Axe: Decreased Minimum Charge from 7 to 6; Decreased Time to Hit after release from 9 to 8.
2.52.0 • Increased travel speed to push their effective threat farther forward and make them harder to outrun.
2.50.0 Azoth has several niche Signatures, that perform a specific task very well, however some of these Signatures are overly punishing to the user when they fail to perform that task, if even by a slight margin. We have decreased the risk involved on some of his more iconic Signature’s to be in line with their potential reward.
 • Azoth Down Axe: Decreased Recovery on miss from 14 Fixed to 13 Fixed.
 • Azoth Neutral Bow: Increased Damage from 22 to 26; Decreased Recovery from 20 Fixed to 18 Fixed.
2.48.0 Azoth can struggle to find knockouts in a number of matchups. We have slightly increased the reward on his Neutral Axe to compensate.
 • Azoth Neutral Axe: Increased Force from 53 Variable/71 Fixed to 54 Variable/71 Fixed.
2.41.0 Azoth’s Neutral Axe was a bit slow for anti-air use, so we have Decreased the Minimum Charge for a faster response.
 • Azoth Neutral Axe: Decreased Minimum Charge from 9 to 7.
2.40.0 • Fixed a timing issue with Azoth Side Axe animation that caused it not to match hitbox timing.
2.39.0 Azoth’s Side Axe has a lengthy total duration that made it hard to find use in play, so we have sped up its overall commitment in the form of some decreased Fixed Recovery.
 • Azoth Side Axe: Decreased Fixed Recovery from 21 to 19.
• Fixed a bug that would cause Azoth’s art to not display correctly in his Neutral Axe signature.
2.38.0 Azoth’s Neutral Bow is getting an increase in speed to improve the reliability of the signature as an anti-air.
 • Azoth Neutral Bow: Decreased Minimum Charge time from 17 to 15.
2.31.1 • Fixed a bug that would cause Azoth to display the default costume at the end of side axe sig
2.29.0 • Fixed a bug where stance changes affected certain signatures more than intended: Azoth Side Bow
2.17.0 Though lethal, the long startup time on Azoth's Side Axe makes it a little too easy to evade.
 • Azoth Side Axe: Decreased Time to Hit from 29 to 27.
2.12.3 • Azoth Down Axe: Fixed some cases where target could be dropped before the final hit.
2.10.0 • Azoth Side Axe: Increased movement speed during charge from -18 to a range between -18 and 43 when dodge canceled.
• Azoth Side Axe: Increased movement speed during charge from -18 to 65 when dodge canceled.
• Azoth Down Bow: Increased movement speed during charge from -40 to 40 when dodge canceled.
2.9.0 Fairly minor changes on Azoth as we move some power from his Neutral Bow to Side Axe.
 • Azoth Neutral Bow: Decreased Damage from 25 to 22.
 • Azoth Side Axe: Increased Damage from 22 to 26.
2.8.0 Azoth's Side Bow lingers for a deceptively long time. We've removed the Hitboxes from some frames that look like the power should be over.
 • Azoth Side Bow: Decreased Hit Window from 26 to 23.
2.5.0 • Azoth - The One Man Dynasty has entered Brawlhalla!
