Lore

The Natural

Kaya, daughter of Kiviuk, the fate of all People is in your hands. If you fail, the sky will fall, the sun will vanish, and the world will be consumed by monsters. This is your destiny. – Great Owl Spirit

When Kaya was six she could put an arrow through a falling snowflake. At eight she brought down two bison with one spear throw. At ten she was visiten by an owl spirit who told her she would deide the fate of her world. More interesting to her, the spirit also showed her how to befriend the wooly mammoth.

Atop her great mammoth, Blue, Kaya became the beloved icon of her tribe, the People of the Lights. Kaya and Blue stalked every corner of the frozen tundra, finding adventure and amassing a huge supply of lost mittens.

In Kaya's fourteenth year, the Ice Titans, thought to be only a legend, brutally attacked Kaya's village. The Titans pillaged or destroyed every store of food, skin, or kayak. Though still a child, Kaya and Blue led her people through the Northern Lights, straight into the heart of Jotunheim. In the Titan homeland, Kaya fought with the reckless bravery and tactical brilliance of one far beyond her years.

The valkyrie Hypernia saw Kaya's unconquerable heart and offered her a place in the warrior's heaven. In Valhalla, Kaya rejoiced in exploring the strange world of Asgard with her best friend, Hypernia's young daughter Brynn. Now, as Brynn has grown older, Kaya has begun to take an interest in the Grand Tournament as well, and she thinks perhaps she and Blue will give a try.

Got it, no problem. – Kaya

Signature Attacks

Spear

Input Description Damage Stun Frame Advantage Force Animation Frame Data (min) Notes
Stun (total) Stun (after hit) Variable Fixed Startup Frames Active Frames Recovery Frames
Neutral The snow-clad image of Kaya’s mammoth, Blue, rises from the ground beneath her. At her command, the wooly beast lashes out into the air: if the wide diagonal strike hits anyone, Kaya follows it up with the powerful stab of her ice-cold spear. Quite an unorthodox anti-air – its wide sweep can also hit grounded opponents a good distance away from Kaya.

or

Kaya readies her trusty hunting spear and takes a long leap forward, thrusting the ice-covered tip far ahead. Any enemy stabbed by the weapon is hooked and launched high up behind her back. Since the spear’s hitbox lingers for quite a while and Kaya’s leap moves her a fair distance horizontally, this attack covers a good chunk of area on the ground. Good for closing up distance.
The Sweeping Blizzard! Kaya starts twirling her spear, moving back slightly and creating a tiny but vicious blizzard in front of her. The more you hold the attack, the longer it lasts. Don't blunder into the blinding snow if you don’t want to be frozen to ice and stabbed with even more ice! Pretty similar to Ulgrim's Orange Chainsaw, but moves Kaya back slightly and covers an area closer to the ground. Short range, but good against light attacks and stupidly aggressive enemies.

Bow

Input Description Damage Stun Frame Advantage Force Animation Frame Data (min) Notes
Stun (total) Stun (after hit) Variable Fixed Startup Frames Active Frames Recovery Frames
Neutral The Owl’s Flight! Kaya nocks an icy arrow and immediately starts sliding forward very quickly, her bow drawn. The longer you hold the attack, the further she slides. When released, the arrow turns into an icy winter owl spirit that launches away any enemy it touches. This sig moves Kaya very fast in the direction she’s facing: you’ll likely move quite a bit forward before you can even release the strike. Perfect for preemptive air attacks, horizontal movement or anti-air edge-guarding.

or

The winter huntress slides forward and kicks snow and sleet into the face of her foe. If the attack is successful, Kaya launches away the snow-covered stunned enemy with a follow-up arrow. A more conventional close-up attack with good range and a big sweeping hitbox. Really good for reaching enemies where your light attacks cannot hit them.
Kaya hops up and shoots an icy arrow from her bow, causing big spikes of ice to erupt from the ground (or thin air) a few steps away from her. If the short-living spikes stun an enemy as they erupt, the huntress finishes off the bewildered brute with the second arrow as she’s about to land. A longer-range evade-and-punish attack that’s good against longer-range signatures: it takes you up and away from the horizontal lunges, and shoots a fair distance away at the typical ground location of a lunging enemy. Very good for mindgames, or when you need to take off the ground in style.

Trivia

  • Kaya's default weapons are the 'Prey Catcher' (Spear) and the 'Ivory Snare' (Bow) - the Prey Catcher is one of the few Spear skins to have no blade at its tip.
  • Kaya's bot name is Kayandroid
  • If Kaya uses her Spear Neutral Sig when Gravity Cancelled, and with no jumps remaining, the Mammoth is darkened out (like Kaya herself) until the end of the attack, when it suddenly brightens.
  • Kaya is one of only three Legends not to be standing during the Legend selection screen, as she instead sits on the floor. The other two are Azoth and Sidra. She does, however, stand up when selected.
